The Art of The Palette Knife.

I am an art lover from afar at the moment, content to wander exhibitions and imagine the lottery win that would enable me to purchase works by my favourite artists.

One of the techniques I am drawn to are works created with a palette knife, producing those delicious, abstract forms that somehow come together to become a recognisable and striking image. Often completed in one sitting by the artist these beautifully put together works show a true talent in manipulating colour and texture...

Miranda Skoczek. New Exhibition.

Just received a lovely email reminder that one of my favourite artists Miranda Skoczek will be exhibiting her new collection at the Edwina Corlette Gallery.

I would love one for my own wall...

Artist in Residence. Noël Skrzypczak.

Larger than life artist Noël Skrzypczak is a contemporary artist based in Melbourne. Noël is known for her large-scale abstract wall paintings, recognised by their vivid colours and large flowing forms.

Noël was born in Toronto, Canada and relocated to Canberra with her family as a young child. She completed a Visual Arts degree at the ANU School of Art, Canberra.

Her gorgeous paintings remind me of a psychoanalysts image, albeit a very beautiful one....

Artist in Residence. John Waller.

I am contemplating the purchase of an artwork.....a test in contemplation and choosing what you love (which hopefully falls within your budget). John Waller is a beautiful Australian artist who's work really caught my eye...these pieces are from his 'Mallee' series.

They would be very welcome on my wall.

Art in Residence.

As part of my Artist in Residence series of posts - and as I contemplate the placement of artworks in my own home - I thought I'd share some gorgeous shots of homes where I think they have really nailed it.

Drenched in my favourite blues, greens and purples...

Artist in Residence. Florence Broadhurst.

Much has been written about the legendary Florence Broadhurst.
A forward thinking, creative woman ahead of her time. In her lifetime
she was a singer, dress shop owner, truck company owner, painter
and finally textile queen.

My house has its fair share of these glorious fabrics thanks to
Signature Prints, who have dedicated themselves to bringing Florence's
designs to life once more.

Wallpaper art by Emma Hack - look closely

Her now legendary wallpaper company opened in Australia in 1959,
dominating the Australian market in the 1970's with bold, colourful
patterns showing her flamboyant personality.

She encouraged people to break out of the box and be daring with
their decorating...thank you Florence.

Florence sadly died in mysterious circumstances in 1977 at the
age of 78. She has influenced many designers after her and the
Broadhurst legend lives on.
What a Lady.

Joshua Yeldham. Artist in the Flesh.

I am a long term fan of the work of Australian artist Joshua Yeldham who I have posted about previously here.

He will be is opening his latest exhibition at the Arthouse Gallery in Sydney this week and if you get a chance you must go and have a look.

The colour and detail is just stunning - many people are fans of Yeldham's work so the pieces are a little out of my price range, but I can dream...

Artist in Residence. Marcella Kaspar.

Marcella Kaspar was born in Prague and now lives and works in Sydney, Australia.

Oil paintings of layered peonies and other soft, layered flowers, allow Marcella to show her skill in balancing light and shade. The delicate texture in her paintings makes them sway and unfurl before your eyes.

I would love one of these on my wall...

Marcella Kaspar

Whilst painting these works, I was reminded of Leonardo Da Vinci's notebooks on the principles of light & shade from the perspective of a scientist...

"Every opaque body is surrounded and enveloped in shadow and light with varying degrees"
I have focused on the subject of the peonie rose as the basis of my art practice, as it best allows me to further explore color and its subtle shift, as influenced by light & shade.

The creative process inherent to this series, to a degree, echoes the technique of tapestry artisans and painters of the Renaissance: the paintings are ‘woven’ like tapestries manifesting a symphony of different tones and hues.

Artist in Residence. Lalique.

Rene Lalique 1860-1945. French, ground breaking jeweller and glass artist.

Larrikin and artistic genius. Heart-stoppingly delicate creations drawn from nature.

Some might call me old fashioned, but the workmanship and whimsical nature of the designs are something to marvel at....

floral clusters.
